Rich, generous and timeless Aka-Raku chawan by veteran descendant of Honami Koetsu; Hon'ami Sokyu. This full and rounded form chawan is reminiscent of chawan from the edo period and was formed by hand molding, tebinari, the traditional manner in which Raku has been made for centuries. Relying on a tradition passed down from its founder, through his master, Honami Koson, Sokyu works in an unbroken line of transmission all the way back to Koetsu. The evocative red raku bowl has bold and intentional areas of black carburized areas creative a lush landscape to the bowl. The mikomi has a wonderful carburized black ring to define it and the foot, the kodai is hand tooled and also has a ring of black to define it.

This chawan measures 5.2" x 3.65" and is in perfect condition with its original signed box.
