Wonderful, classical Shino chawan in the Momoyama traditional style by the grand gentleman of Mino ceramics ; Tamaoki Yasuo. Tamaoki was heralded as one of the five great hopes of Mino by Kuroda Ryoji and he has not failed to live up to that mantle. Exhibited worldwide, illustrated in a large variety of books and catalogues and having pots in a number of museums, Tamaoki, having first studied with Kato Kobei V, has mastered a wide array of pottery and is currently a Prefectural Intangible Cultural Asset.

This evocative, exhibition quality Shino chawan shows wonderful blushes of fire color and red iron slip which has altered the pure white surface and is finished off with an exceptional kodai that fits well on a desk or in hand. In perfect, original condition, the chawan measures 14+ x 9.4 cm and is marked with an exhibition number on the base of the bowl. Comes complete with its signed box and stamped cloth.
