Robust and rather practical Haku-ji chawan by veteran Kawai school potter; Mukunoki Eizo. Covered over in a thick coating of Hakuji style glaze the surface has shimmering crystals formed by tin throughout the surface creating a rather pleasant surface. The form is a classic ridged, shinogi style bowl which culminates in the buff stoneware ring of the foot. Mukunoki Eizo was one of Kawai Kanjiro's last students and in his tenure under the master he gained a great insight in to the Kawai school style creating a wide range of glazes of which this white Hakuji is just one.
This chawan is in excellent condition and measures 13.5 x 8.5 cm and comes without its original wood storage box. The box seems to be nowhere to be found. This chawan is priced exceedingly reasonably in the hopes that it finds a good home where it will be appreciated and used.
