This fiercely medieval style tokkuri was made by Echizen standout Nishiura Takeshi (b.1941) and in form and surface it is everything that classic modern Echizen is about. Using indigenous Echizen clay, local woods and firing a distinctly traditional Echizen kiln, Nishiura creates works that are in direct lineage back to the medieval times while adding his own voice to both form and surface. This tokkuri has a pleasantly fullness to the form and is finished in a wonderful array of wood fired affects that entirely engulf the piece including the rich tamadare crust on the face of the piece and running ash here and there.

This tokkuri measures 10.6 x 8.5 cm and comes complete with its original signed box. In great original condition.
