This fabulous Vintage Taxco Mexico sterling silver and Amethyst brooch is an early piece that dates pre-1948. The color of the amethysts gemstone is a wonderful deep purple. The silver work, the Repoussé is excellent. This maker's mark is a well known; the mark is AE in a heart shape M which is mentioned in Bille Hougart's book, "The Little Book of Mexican Silver Trade and Hallmarks" Third edition, as well as many others. This mark is also found on Estela Popowski and Rancho Alegre items but is still somewhat of a mystery...except the caliber of work and materials used...always very high.
Mark: AE in a heart shape M, Sterling Mexico.
Measurements 36.4mm / 1.4” high, 52.8mm / 2” wide, 7mm thickest point.
Weighs approx. 13.6 grams.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition, the Amethyst has a few scratches on the side and inclusions near the bottom, One tiny mark on the right side bottom that can not be seen when worn. The closure works as it should the pin part is not perfectly straight. A wonderful patina that only time, years of polishing and use can create.
The marker although a mystery the work is very collectible as the quality of the work warrants.
Layaway always welcomed.
