A beautiful and large vintage faceted / cut Amethyst gemstone (open setting so light can pass through) is the center attraction of this Vintage Taxco Mexico sterling silver brooch second only to the stunning carved floral border. The center gemstone is surrounded by a square silver border with detailed, well carved floral part that is closest to the amethyst stone- seen well in the photos. I am not 100% sure I can make out the entire maker mark of this piece as there may only be part of the mark remaining. The signed, piece dates to the 1940's.
Mark: AM. (difficult to know if there are other letters and it seems likely) STERLING. MEXICO.
Measurements 25.8mm / 1” high, 29.4mm / 1.15” wide and 9.2mm thick without the clasp.
Weighs approx. 11.2 grams.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition with no major defects, the lower right corner is very slightly turned up only seen when looking from a side view up close and in my opinion does not detract at all. The usual minor surface scuff marks mainly on the back of this piece.
NOTE: If the mark is as above AM STERLING MEXICO, I have found this mark (or similar) in the book The Little Book Of Mexican Silver Trade and Hallmarks, by Bille Hougart, Third edition page 205. It is just a line entry so we know little is more.
