This brooch has an exceptional and large faceted / cut amethyst gemstone as the center and feature of this piece. The color of the stone seems to change a bit from purple to a blueish. The prong setting matches the open work detail well. The depth is accentuated by the over under ‘weave’ of the lines. Signed. The work of Miguel Melendez is being appreciated now more than ever; his open work and use of large cut stones seen in this piece as well as his incredible crushed stone inlay work are excellent and original.
