A stunning domed oval Mother of Pearl cabochon that truly glows with that special iridescence- pinks whites. The MOP is held in place with a sterling silver setting featuring scrolls around the top tier of the setting and rope work on the inside of the two V prongs on the top part of the band. The back of the setting is open and light does pass through as this stunning piece of MOP is a bit translucent; designed so that when worn the setting allows for a bit of light to enter the setting. Signed and marked 925 on the inside of the band.

A bit about Mother OF Pearl AKA MOP:
Mother of pearl is the common name for the iridescent nacre (AKA MOP) coating which are secreted by oysters and other such mollusks and then deposited inside their own shells, coating and protecting them from any possible parasites and/ or foreign objects. When MOP is used in jewelry only the nacre that coats the inside layer of the shell is used. The reason large pieces can be seen in jewelry is that the nacre can take up an entire shells insides as a pearl is only the nacre covering of a small object.
