Made for Tiffany & Co. Charles Tiffany, Circa 1892-1902. Cartouche on the front is blank making the case, motif AND the blank cartouche very rare. The clasp is a push button that opens the case with a bit of tension as when new. The entire piece is engraved with a huge, wild, free-flowing fire cloud stemming from each of the dragons mouths. The dragons are positioned on either side of the blank cartouche holding the sides while blowing fire that covers the entire piece front and back. The inside has a gold wash, the ‘arms’ are silver.
The engraving on this piece is among the very best I have ever seen; every line meets the next perfectly proportions and detail again, incredible.
Marks Made for Tiffany & CO.STERLING. A infinity like symbol. 5.
Measurements 85.48mm / 3.36” high, 84.35mm / 3.32” wide including the release button, 14.17mm / .55” thick.
Weight 104.41 grams / 3.68 ounces.
Condition Excellent vintage condition. A bit of light surface wear on the sides where ‘hands’ would hold the case. One of the two ‘arms’ that hold the cigarettes in place is not as taught as the other ‘arm’ which is like when new. The clasp is a push button and works as if new; when holding the case and pushing the release button the case opens in slow motion as when new.
