This is an extremely rare Egyptian wood carving of the god Ptah-Sokar-Osiris with a plumed crown and ram horns. It dates to 664-525 BC. It measures 57.7 cm in height (22.7"), 23.3 cm at its widest and 10.2 cm at its greatest depth. The wood has 6 different pigments that have been painted onto the wood in intricate designs. Hieroglyphics are painted down the back of the figure. The figure was carved from a single section of hard wood with the headdress shaped from two pieces originally. The wood has over 2500 years of oxidation. The figure is painted with mineral pigments including gold and copper sulfate. The pigments have oxidized with heavy crystalization of the minerals. The tip of the horn was broken off in modern times and simply repaired with resin glue, however the piece is original to the figure. No other repair or restoration of any kind has been made to the wood or the pigments. The wood is very solid. The figure's shroud is intricately painted in imitation of the treatment with jewels, beads and ornaments the mummy itself would have received. It was examined by a forensic laboratory in 1998 and includes a 19 page laboratory report. The examination included testing 20 areas on the figure. It was imported before 1948 and has an excellent provenance. This is the finest example in the best condition I have seen.
