This is the finest miniature Olmec jade maskette that I have ever seen. The beard is a particularly noteworthy feature. Many bearded figures are known from the Olmec culture and are seen on a variety of media. It measures only 1 1/2" long. It is mildly scooped in the back. Found in a dig in Veracruz, Mexico in 1966. It is made from one of the most beautiful pieces of jade that I have seen. It is extremely translucent. It is thin and lightweight. Look at how evenly the jade is distributed. It has a modern 14k gold loop on the top and can be comfortably worn every day. This is an ancient piece of jewelry that is beyond compare.
