These are two of the finest bone artifacts I have ever seen and as you can see from viewing my site, I specialize in bone items. The largest is 7 1/2". I love bone because it patinates so beautifully. These have the most gorgeous yellow brown patination you will ever see. They are very finely made with needle tip points. They are both perforated which is much rarer. They were uncovered in the melting Alaskan permafrost and could be thousands of years old. They are both translucent when backlit. They are pictured on page 235 in Lar Hothem's 'Antler Bone and Shell Artifacts' book. The shape is rare and unusual. Having been found in the melting permafrost of Alaska, the age could easily be archaic or older. Owning bone artifacts that are pictured in Hothem's book makes these exceptionally desirable. Lar Hothem was a well-known expert in the field of Indian arrowheads and artifacts. His popular series, Indian Artifacts of the Midwest series has now added its 5th volume. His other titles include Indian Axes & Related Stone Artifacts, Indian Pipes, Arrowheads & Projectile Points, and Indian Trade Relics. Lar passed away in 2006.
