This is an extremely rare, unique IMPORTANT Olmec quartz engraved plaque. I have only seen a handful of authentic Olmec quartz pieces in my 40 years of collecting. I have two others listed on this site. I have never seen another Olmec quartz plaque. This piece is highly transparent, water clear and dates 1200-600BC. It is made from a large rare thin 'Tabby' crystal with notches on the side. It is 3.75 inches square by 1/8". It was intricately carved and engraved to depict a scene of an offering being given to the king on his throne probably by an ancestor. This piece was very difficult to photograph, but take a close look at the stunning scene that has been immortalized in stone. It is the most rare and interesting Olmec piece I have ever seen. I have a hard time putting it down and am constantly drawn back to it. It is mesmerizing and captivating, even hypnotic. This is easy to say until you hold it in your hands. The photos cannot begin to do it justice. It has great patina with no signs of modern tooling. All marks are consistent with age and appropriate wear consistent with its immense age. It comes from the Veracruz area. It is from the collection of Wayne Mitchell, an early film maker. If you have the finest Olmec collection in the world, this will be your centerpiece. I no longer use 'in my opinion' COAs. I use Optically Stimulated Luminescence using the IR Raman Laser Spectrography which offers accuracy unachievable with other methods. This piece comes with a certificate of authenticity from Bill Breckinridge. He also used microscopic evaluation, visible spectrum florescence and UV examination. Trocadero does not allow links in the narrative. If you would like a link to a newspaper article on Bill Breckinridge and OSL, please email me at the address on my homepage.
