DESCRIPTION: A dark green jade amulet in the form of a cicada with two wings, bulbous eyes and ribbed body. The ancient Chinese regarded cicadas as symbols of longevity, rebirth and immortality. In ancient times similar carvings were placed on the tongue of deceased persons before burial to ensure resurrection. DESCRIPTION: An exceptional shou shan stone seal in tablet form, certainly created by a Chinese master-carver. On the top flat surface is a tranquil scene of a full moon shining over a forest by the edge of a river with two pavilions close to the water's edge. Inscribed on the top left corner is an eight line poem. Characters carved on the seal's narrow bottom edge leave a rectangular, positive (red) impression. DIMENSIONS: 4" high (10.2 cm) x 2 7/8" wide (7.4 cm) x 5/8" thick (1.6 cm).
