DESCRIPTION: A heavy, well crafted Chinese hand warmer of solid brass, dating from the mid 19th C. The large lid is perforated with round holes to allow ventilation for the coals that would be placed inside. In cold winter months, hand warmers were almost a necessity for venturing outside or while minding one’s shop. A swing handle is attached to the body on side supports. Very good condition with no dents; original finish (tarnished). This sturdy piece is still functional and would make a very handsome fireplace accent. DIMENSIONS: A nice large size at 9 ½” high with handle up (24 cm); 5 ½” high with handle down (14 cm); 9 ½” diameter (24 cm).
