DESCRIPTION: A large lidded cloisonne censer, the body decorated in bright enamels with masks and stylized scrolling lotus on a turquoise ground; the body is elevated with gilt foo dog supports and has two large rectangular handles with key fret designs. Around the lower band of the lid are the eight precious Buddhist symbols; these symbols are repeated again within a pierced metal band with stylized clouds. The lid's finial handle is formed by a gilt two-headed dragon standing on sea and wave designs. This is an impressive censer and dates to the first half of the 20th C. CONDITION: The exterior is in very good with no flakes or losses; on the interior, there are two spots of enamel loss at two corners (see photos). DIMENSIONS: 15.5" high to top of finial (39.4 cm) x 12.5" wide (31.8 cm) x 7" deep (17.7 cm).
