A carved and joined walnut monk’s chair with upholstered back and seat of light-colored hide fastened with large metal studs. The back uprights have leaf-carved scroll finials and are joined to the flat arms which rest on square supports. Just under the seat, front and side stretchers display carved paneled rosettes. The legs terminate in a shoe-foot type base with incised detail, echoing the shape of the armrests. Spanish Colonial Period, c. 1700’s. CONDITION: Wear due to advanced age including stain on leather seat, chip to wood on armrest, wear and worm holes on feet stretchers. This substantial, sturdy chair would make a distinctive period accent to the Southwestern or Spanish Colonial themed home. DIMENSIONS: 49" high x 29.75" wide. Seat depth is 16", seat height 19".
