A stunning and powerful 970 silver and amethyst drop necklace by Taxco silversmith Antonio Pineda. The 7 bezel set cabachon amethyst drops are attached on hinges suspending from the silver " X's" and they move. Upon close examination, the unique triangular shaped clasp is actually another "X" filled in. The design and execution of this piece is superb. It is featured on page 207 of the exhibit catalog MAESTROS DE PLATA , WILLIAM SPRATLING AND THE MEXICAN SILVER RENAISSANCE but with obsidian stones rather than amethysts.Circa 1950, this necklace measures approximately 16" end to end,(is curved so difficult to be exact) and is 1 1/2" wide at the center drop.It is in beautiful original condition with no chips or cracks to the stones but many natural inclusions. Signed for Antonio Pineda as shown. Exquisite in every way.
