Very interesting paperweight that a lieutenant or one of his family members had made to celebrate his winning of the Iron Cross First Class. The EK1 was, of course, a prestigious valor award and earning this medal would likely be a highlight in a soldier's life. The bulk of this paperweight is the clear plastic composite in which we often see old coins or similar mementos suspended. On the bottom is what appears to be the newspaper announcement of the award given to Leutnant d. Res (Lieutenant of Reserve) Otto Keller and gives specifics as to his family and brothers who were also apparently serving. This clipping is mounted atop gold foil impressed with a floral design atop which is a silver and black foil embossed 1914 Iron Cross. Mild age wear but still a very attractive piece that would be a great addition to just about any Iron Cross collection.
