Offered is this rare Murano glass compote, made by Barovier & Toso (designer: Ercole Barovier) around 1940. The shell-shaped ('Conchiglia') compote is 15 inches (38 cm) long and 8 3/4 inches (22 cm) high. It is in very good condition. The pontil is polished. The shell-shaped compote has a complex marine-themed foot/support, also done with gold flecks (also, there is a slight iridescence to the blue-top glass). Though unsigned, almost certainly it was made by Barovier & Toso - please refer to page 215 of Leslie Pina's book, 'Italian Glass century 20' for a similar-application, pink-colored Ercole Barovier compote that was presented at the 1940 biennalle exhibition (shown in last picture here for your convenience).
