An exquisitely handcrafted large pierced centre bowl with handles. This stunning bowl is pierced, embossed and chased with a continuous scene of houses and figures in various pursuits. The backdrop to the bowl is both intricately pierced and worked to form trees and plants. Right beneath the bowl is a plain stem which contrasts against the delicate and ornateness of the bowl on top, and the pierced and embossed foot of the bowl, which once again shows elaborate scenes of figures and buildings. The centre bowl is also decorated with applied dragon handles. The detail and intricate workmanship is beautiful - down to every tiny leaf being chased. The centre bowl comes with a round wooden stand. In our opinion, the stand is not original to the centre bowl.
Age: late 19th century - early 20th century
Condition: Good for its age and given the delicate nature of this type of intricately pierced work. However, do note that the glass liner is missing, and one of the handles has been re-applied. In terms of the pierced work, it is also in good condition for its age except on very close inspection there are a couple of tiny leaves that may be missing, and a slight bruising to the top left hand of the bowl. (see photos above for the details).
Size: Diameter of the bowl - approximately 9 inches (20.29 cm); Widest point handle to handle - approximately 14 inches (36 cm); Height from base to the top of the dragon-formed handles - approximately 7.5 inches (19 cm); Height to the rim of the bowl - approximately 6.5 inches (16.5 cm); Height on the wooden stand to the tip of the dragon-formed handles - just over 9.5 inches (24 cm)
