From an English private collection
A lovely 17th c Ming Dehua blanc-de-chine medium-sized box and cover, mould-casted with fluted edges and relief decoration showing a blooming peony sprig. This piece exemplifies the quality of Ming dehua wares with its fine porcelain paste and bubbly clear ivory glaze almost resembling that of Dingyao wares.
For similar boxes, please consult British Museum 1985,1119.4 and 1985,1119.3, both of which were recovered from the Hatcher cargo (see last pictures).
Condition: 2 chips to the edge of the box bottom half, some encrustations covering the paste, otherwise in good antique condition. [Please examine all photos carefully, as they are part of the condition report.]
