QING GILT LACQUER OFFERING BOX
Date: 19th century | Qing dynasty
Materials: Pine wood with lacquer
Length: 40.5 cm
Width: 12 cm
Height: 23.5 cm
Provenance: From a Dallas, Texas private collection; originally purchased from Hong Kong in 1982 (sales receipt available)

An interesting 19th century Qing dynasty wood offering box, lacquered throughout in black, red, and gilt gold, featuring a carved reticulated stand with a rectangular cover and a red offering tray to be placed inside. The box cover is painted on one side with the eight Daoist immortals, while the other features a marvelous inscription in xingshu script, the calligraphic quality of which is superb.

Condition: Due to age, there are wide ‘snake belly’ age cracks to the lacquer and some gaps in the joints between the wood. Some parts of the painted gilt decorations are worn. Otherwise in good antique condition. [Please examine all photos carefully, as they are part of the condition report.]
