A good example of a commemorative goblet celebrating the construction of what was the largest single span bridge in the world over the River Wear at Sunderland. Strictly speaking the actual bridge being celebrated was the Wearmouth Bridge even though these glasses frequently have the legend as engraved on this glass of SUNDERLAND BRIDGE. The bridge was completed in 1796 and brought prosperity to the local area. The bridge attracted visitors and these glasses were made chiefly as souvenirs.

We have more, identical, examples from the same set as this. Please enquire,

Height 5½ inches;
Bowl diameter 3½ inches;
Foot diameter 3 inches.

The glass has no condition issues. It has had an easy life and shows only minimal wear to the underside of the foot and the bowl rim.
