In admiration, I think I must challenge anyone to find such a perfectly scaled pair of miniature 3” all bisque or dollhouse dolls. This little German pair is fantastic and are for the discriminating collector! Made about a century ago, it is hard for me to believe that such tiny print fabrics were even available! Checks, stripes, dots, and other prints have been combined ingeniously to give the impression of texture, movement and interest. It looks like someone must have sprinkled real children with fairy dust and shrunk them down for time travel! Both will fit in the palm of your hand!

Without actually undressing these dolls and disturbing their original attire, all bisque parts appear to be perfect, jointed at shoulders and hips. Tiny numbers are incised on the back of their heads that appear to be 36 over 4/0. Their little features have been carefully painted. Their little single stroke eyebrows, pursed lips and nostril accents show a skilled and steady hand produced them. Enlarge the photos to appreciate their blue eyes, their bound-on cotton socks and little stitched on leather shoes! The hems are stitched by machine and there are no raw edges with the exception of the gold scarf on the girl’s head. Tiny beads were used for buttons on the boy’s jacket and his hat is made of velvet. The girl’s little mohair wig is even stitched with a part down the middle! I have not removed this since it is firmly attached.

Imagination easily lends itself to story telling of the two off on a ride with their beloved ponies that they have refused to be separated from. So if you are planning on giving them a home, you must come up with a pasture or stable as well. :o) Both ponies are flocked over all but have real hair manes and tails, glass eyes, painted nostrils, mouths and hooves. They wear red felt saddles and special contrasting tack with metal conches. They are just as exquisitely and proudly made a little later in time with stickers on their bellies saying “HANDWORK Kunstlerschutz West Germany”.

The price includes the entire set of 2 dolls and 2 ponies.
