This mid 20th century carved ivory netsuke of a monkey is 1 ½” high, 1 5/8” wide and 1 ¼” thick. It depicts a sitting monkey holding a fruit branch. The signature is on the bottom of his back leg. It is in great condition.

This mid 20th century carved wood netsuke is 1 7/8” high, 1 ½” wide and 7/8” thick. It depicts two playful mice resting on a small flat basket. The mouse on the top is chewing the tail of the other one and the one on the bottom is fighting back by biting the other one’s back leg. It is signed but is not legible. The carving is very nice and it is in great condition.

The Chinese name for this bodhisattva, sitting on a lotus flower which is draped on the back of a lion, is Wenshu (Manjusri). Wenshu was a disciple of the Buddha. This large carved ivory beauty is a 1950’s product. It depicts a young lady (quite possibly an image of a fairy) holding a flower basket in one hand and a branch of peony blossoms in the other. There is a phoenix leaning on her left side. She is almost 14 ¾” high, 3 ¼” wide and 2 ¾” thick. It is in excellent condition.

This 1930’s ivory carpenter is 9 ¼” high, 3 ¼” wide and 3 ¼” thick. It depicts a smiling carpenter carrying a wood bucket and cloth bag on his right arm and holding a saw in his left hand. His tool boxes are set in front of him. The artist’s signature “Gyokushi” is on the bottom. It is a well carved piece in great condition.

This very nice painted Famille Rose planter is 3 ¼ inches high, 8 3 /4 inches long and 7 inches deep. It is dated 1929. It depicts a water lily and leaf on one side and “Da Juan” style characters around the remaining sides. There is a red maker’s mark on the bottom but it is not readable. Aside from some small chips on the rim, it is in great condition.

Yosuke Haruta, a Japanese born potter from Osaka, came to the US to study in the sixties. He currently resides in southern Michigan. He was very strongly influenced by Hamada and other Mashiko greats. He is a very popular and well collected artist, with a strong following in the western US. This is a very nice small vase, signed on the foot. It is 7 ¾” high and 5” wide. It is in excellent condition.

Thus, it would be considered a 1st edition print by some. Excellent impression, color and condition. Purchased by the original owner at the Toledo Museum print shows in the 1930's. Never mounted.

Japanese print by Kasamatsu Shiro( 1898-? ) EVENING SKY AT SUWA SHRINE, NIPPORI, 1932 The print is from 1932. Shiro worked for the publisher Watanabe starting in 1919 and was popular with western buyers. Later in the 1950's, he became interested in the Sosaku Hanga movement. This is an original print; some would call it a first edition as it carries the Watanabe C seal used from 1932 to WWII. It was originally purchased at the Toledo Museum print shows during the 1930's ...

This inlayed Chinese ebony brush holder is 7” high and 6 ½” in diameter. It depicts a Shou Lao (god of longevity) holding a cane; a young boy carrying a flower basket stands behind him. Another young boy wearing a red robe is leading a deer cart filled with flowers and plants and walks in front of Shou Lao and his companion. The inlayed materials are dyed coral, mother of pearl, lacquer and hard stone. It is a 1950’s product. Aside from small age cracks, it is in great condition.
