This is a freely formed and decorated guinomi (sake cup) in the Kohiki style by one of the best known living Japanese ceramic artists Koie Ryoji (1938~) who was born in Tokoname, in Aichi prefecture. He has taught numerous workshops worldwide, exhibited worldwide and won numerous awards including two from the Japanese Ceramic Society in 1993 and 2009. He works in a number of traditional styles and is also known for his modern art pieces. The cup is 2” high and 2 ¾” wide. The artist’s signature is on the top of the original wood box. It is in excellent condition.
