This very finely fired guinomi (sake cup) was made by Ikenishi Goh (b. 1961) who is one of the finest younger potters working in Bizen today. The style is a darker style of Bizen ware called Inbe (or Imbe), whereby an iron wash is applied to the surface of the guinomi before firing, giving the body a very dark color. Ikenishi built his first kiln in 1994 and is a very popular and well exhibited artist in Japan. The cup is 2” high and 2 ½” from the widest part. The artist name and seal are on the side of the original wood box; his mark is on the bottom of the sake cup. It is in excellent condition.
