This superb Japanese ivory okimono is 6 ¾ inches long 2 ¾ inches high and 2 ¼ inches on the widest part. It depicts 6 immortals accompanied by a dragon over the ocean. From left to right, the first immortal holds musical instruments in both hands and stands on a lotus leaf; the second sits on the forehead of the dragon and reads a book; the third stands behind the dragon and carries a lamp and whisk; the forth immortal stands on a lotus petal and holds a water bowl; the fifth sits behind the dragon and carries a small pagoda; the last one sits on a turtle back and carries a peach. The artist designed the piece very well; all the immortals and animals were put together wisely. It has a great patina. It is the same artist who made the ivory Buddha and dragon, Item # 2194, and has the same red maker’s mark on the bottom. Aside from four small spikes missing from the back of the dragon, it is in excellent condition.
