This soft cover edition, published in 1997 by the Trustees of the British Museum, is the most authoritative work on Cartier's work to date. A first edition, second issue which includes the story Brown of Calaveras. Published in 1870 by Fields Osgood & Co. Boston. Issues: gilt lettering has faded on the boards which now appear light brown; the boards also show wear and staining, predominately on the back where the ends are worn, stained and chipped; the book is slightly cocked, there are gilt initials imprinted on brown front free endpaper, and there is light foxing. Sold as is.

An early hard cover edition published by James R Osgood, 1875. Terracotta boards with gilt title imprinted on the spine and facsimile signature on the cover. On page 58 there is an error "interferred" for "interfered". Cocoa brown endpapers. The boards show light wear otherwise a nice tight copy.Poems.

Ca 1960 There was an original tag now lost that read "Hand Crafted Austrian Brilliants"--this lot includes heavy clip-on pendant earrings that hang 1-1/2" and a brooch that measures 2" round. Two marquise stones (one on an earring, the other on the pin)have been reset but are difficult to identify.

Written by Esther Stevens Brazer, this is a Memorial (Second) Edition published in 1947 by the Pond-Ekberg Company. The gray linen boards show some wear with creases at the corners, and the gilt pastedown label is smudged. The front free paper is clipped and the pages are uncut. There is a spot on the bottom textblock and the pastedown in the back is showing some wear but the book is intact. The jacket shows light wear with a small crease on the inside corner jacket.
