A rare and dynamic coin which represents a transitional phase in coinage of the Holy Land. Such coinage was derived from Byzantine predecessors and adapted to meet the needs of an Islamic audience. Earlier examples show the emperor rather than the caliph, an oversight which has been remedied here.
