This delicate and detailed sterling silver gilt and fresh water pearl pin was made by the Newark, N.J., firm of Link & Angell, c. 1910. It is in the form of a maple tree seed and pods, and is beautifully and realistically formed down to the veins in the seedpods. The pin measures 1 5/8 inches long by 3/4 inch from the tip of the pod to the curve of the stem. It is stamped on the back with the L&A mark and ‘sterling.’ It has a modified C-clasp indicative of the early 20th century. Condition is excellent; there are no breaks to the silver, and no repairs. The pearl is very secure, and the clasp is in good working order.

This lovely American sterling silver and enamel cross exhibits an elaborately scrolled edge and vibrant green enamel. The cross and chain date from at least c. 1915 but could be older. The chain is original and made of flattened, rectangular links; there is no clasp. It tests definitively for silver. The enamel decoration on the cross is intact, and bears the usual minor flaws of handwork. The cross is quite sturdy, and nicely molded, though there are two casting flaws at the lower right (see photo #6). The ring at the top, as well as the bail connecting the cross to the chain, show some wear. The cross measures just over 2 ¼ inches long, including the top ring, by 1 3/8 inches across. The entire necklace, with the chain doubled, measures 15 1/5 inches long. The back of the cross is marked sterling. Weight: 22.3 grams; the cross alone, about 12.6 grams.

The enamel is in excellent condition, save for two minute spots on two of the round white decorations. It is marked sterling on the back and features a secure C-clasp. The shade of the enamel appears to vary in the photo, but it actually is the same consistent, vivid turquoise throughout the pin. Set with four pieces of green art glass to resemble jade, alternating with Egyptian motifs. The central oval piece is flanked by applied openwork lotus blossoms; the sides exhibit applied elongated elements, possibly symbolizing the eye of Ra. The bracelet is probably American, dating 1920s-30s, and is marked sterling. The glass stones show signs of wear, and one of the smaller stones has a small chip to the side, but all are well secured in their bezel mountings. The bangle measures 3 ½ inches across, with a 7 1 /2-inch internal circumference. The width varies from ¼ inch at the sides and back to ¾ inch at the front.

This impressive boxlike purse was hand beaded and constructed as a souvenir by a member of the Iroquois nation at the turn of the century. The beadwork — all of it intact — tells the story: the maker beaded the words and numerals ‘Box,’ ‘Montreal’ and ‘1907’ on the top, front and back. There are sunburst-like designs on each side, and the handle is made of two twisted strands of clear beads; three groups of looped strands dangle from the bottom. The silk background material exhibits minor wear and spotting mostly on the sides; the blue glazed linen interior a little more so. The top also shows a gap when closed, and some metal sequins are slightly cracked. The entire purse is well constructed and sturdy, with the cotton stitching still tight and all pieces securely attached. The purse measures about 5 1/4 inches long at the bottom, about 3 1/4 inches high and about 3 1/4 inches deep at the sides.
