Here are a pair of late 19th-century oval cuff buttons decorated with horseshoes of inlaid dyed black onyx. They are probably American; the round backs show a sterling mark and possible maker’s mark for Ludwig, Redlich & Co. of New York. The surface exhibits the warm patina of considerable age, but the inlay shows no loss. The backs are well soldered and secure. Each oval button measures about ¾ inch long by ½ inch wide. Weight: 5.2 grams total

Each of these five late 19th-century heart charms is decorated with embossed scrolls; included is also an engraved faux lock of the same period. The hearts are identical, with one showing minor impacts; the lock looks to be hardly worn. All have their bails intact and are marked sterling on the back. Each heart measures 1/2 inch wide by 3/4 inch long, including the bail; the locket measures just under ½ inch wide by 5/8 inch long. Weight: 4.8 grams total

A nice, early pair of cuff links from Newark, NJ, maker Krementz and Co. The 14kt gold oblong buttons have a recessed floral design, embedded with white, blue and yellow vitreous enamel. There is very minor wear to the enamel, visible only through magnification. The bridge bars are secure and exhibit no stress or wear; they bear the Krementz mark of 14 K. with an impressed collar button. They are lightweight, but well constructed, with the loops that connect the bridge bars on individual hinges. Each button measures ¾ inch long by ¼ inch at the widest area. Weight: 3.3 grams total

These delicate earrings are from the late 19th century and test as 14kt gold, so they are likely American. Each is formed as a scalloped disc, decorated with a delicately engraved leaf. The screw backs were added later, possibly replacing kidney wires that allowed the discs to drop just below the ear lobe. One of the screw back bars is slightly bent, but secure. Each disc measures about 5/8 inch across. Weight: 4.6 grams total

These cuff links feature a delicate geometrical design in pink and blue, hand painted under the glaze on a white ceramic ground. The buttons are framed by sterling embossed rims and are joined by removable sterling figure-eight bridge bars. The glazing leaves tiny gaps in some areas around the edge. They bear the mark of Coddington Bros. and Heilborn, of Attleboro, Mass., and measure ½ inch long by ¼ inch wide. Gross weight: 4.1 grams total

This late 19th-century hinged bangle is a real beauty. It’s made of 14-karat gold, set with 18 half-pearls that are enhanced with cobalt-blue enamel. The back of the bracelet is simply decorated with a raised, thin gold band that terminates at both ends with a figure-8. Both rims have recesses along the edges all the way around. The tongue and groove clasp is very secure; a gold security chain with a spring-ring catch is a later addition. The maker’s mark of MC&Co. is at this time unidentified. There is a tiny dent on the inside of the bracelet; otherwise, it is in lovely condition with a soft patina from age. It will receive a slight cloth polishing before shipment to its new home. The internal diameter of the bangle is 2 inches, and the internal circumference is roughly 6 ¼ inches. The width measures about 5/8 inches. Gross weight: 39.5 grams

This lovely sterling silver pin is a classic example of the Japanisme influence popular during the Aesthetic Movement of the late 19th century. It features embossed images of a dragonfly and two delicate plants as well as tiny marks emulating Asian characters, all on an irregular-shaped disk. Made by George W. Shiebler of New York City, the molding is sharp and detailed; it does appear to have a secure rollover clasp that would have replaced the original C-clasp. Besides the Shiebler mark, the reverse is marked for sterling silver and exhibits the number 1410. The pin measures 1 5/8 inches across. Weight: 17.2 grams

This bold bracelet, probably American, has a modern sensibility that belies its ca. 1890 origins. It is composed of a polished hollow sterling silver curb chain with a sterling heart-shaped padlock closure. This padlock has no key but can be opened simply by a gentle tug on the lever mechanism and a gentle push to close. The chain has no marks (though tests for sterling); the top of the padlock indicates sterling, which suggests an American origin. The chain is undecorated and has no dented or misshapen links aside from a very minor impression one of the terminal links that attach to the padlock. The padlock has one long scratch on the front, visible in the photo; it is less visible to the eye. The bracelet measures 8 inches long (excluding the clasp) and 5/8 of an inch wide. The padlock measures approximately 3/4 inch across. Weight: 38 grams
