This is a modern take of the "wayang golek". Operated like like the shadow puppets, but without the shadow and presented directly to the audience, they are traditionally Javanese (Island of Java in Indonesia). This particular puppet is dressed in the Balinese (Island of Bali in Indonesia) traditional style, with a modernize facial features as well, making this a Javanese "Wayang Golek" inspired decorative object one place in one's living room. The head piece is just simply stunning. This is hand crafted to order for Blue Ginger using a traditional Balinese cloth of our choice (newly made cloth, we do not participate in the destruction of historical vintage traditional cloths of Indonesia). ONE OF A KIND. No two pieces are ever exactly alike. CONDITION: NEWLY CRAFTED. DIMENSION: APPROXIMATELY 80 cm or 31 inches. PLEASE NOTE *THE SECOND PICTURE IS NOT THE ITEM LISTED HERE, IT IS FOR ILLUSTRATIVE PURPOSES ONLY*
A triple brooch called "kerosang" is a set of three brooches or pins used to fastened the front opening of a "Kebaya". This is a silver reproduction of an old, large and fab design with modestly graded emerald. Occasionally we would find an old fashioned looking "sogan" (traditional brown originally from the bark of "soga" tree) but with a little twist. Peranakan batik tulis are known for their flamboyant designs and colours. Here we have the restrain of the old brown Solo style, with a hint of the rebellion and breaking free in the dancing peacocks.....
This is a unique batik tulis. I can't quite figure out if this is Peranakan Chinese Javanese or just Javanese..... Either way, the background is very finely done in a pattern that is called "pasiran" which means "sand" like. And if you take a look at the close up, you can see what to me looks like a the flowing patterns of the sand in a Zen Japanese garden.
Kedungwuni is a town outside Pekalongan, the best of the best of Peranakan Chinese Batik Tulis, typified by a very distinct penmanship. The dots are tight, tidy, and exquisite, like no other place on earth can accomplish. No signature. Good condition.
Kudus style Peranakan Chinese Batik Tulis with interesting blue flowers, and in the "pagi-sore" format on this kain panjang. Kudus is a city in Java and was well known to be the place for where the wealthy of age gone by ordered their batik tulis. The more intricate the designs the more time consuming, and more expensive it became. So they of course commissioned batik tulis with detail packed background, and Kudus become synonymous with this amazing style. CONDITION: two pin holes as indicated by the white sticker.
This is a rare find. Indo Dutch batik tulis by Simone. Signed, and stamped. Most Dutch batik tulis from the Dutch East Indies, now Indonesia, is commonly estimated to be originated before the break of the first world war (c late 1800s - 1910s). It is designed with very European themes including what looks like cherubs or cupids. The limited colour choices here may be due to the fact that this was made prior to the arrival of synthetic dye in the Dutch East Indies. CONDITION: there are several moth holes (please see pics), mainly along the edges and a few towards the middle. I can only fit 6 pictures here. Please contact me for more pics of moth holes
