This is an interesting piece of a "Pagi Sore" (Morning Evening) "Kain Panjang" (Long Cloth = Hip Wrapper) Old Javanese Chinese Batik Tulis with the "Sore" part (the side with the lighter colour, to be worn in the evening) done in what is known as the "Spilled Rice" pattern, which is very labour intensive as we can imagine just by looking at it (please see close up pic). The style here is different compared to other Indonesian Chinese and Indo Dutch Batik Tulis in that is commonly associated with older Batik of the kind. Estimated to be from 1910s - 1930s. And with age come some damages as shown in our pictures. But because of the age, it is also relatively rare, as many of its contemporaries did not survive the passage of time, the depression and world war 2. We are only able to upload 6 pictures and so we do not deny you closer inspection of this beautiful piece, we chose to use our space to show case this piece as much as possible, and use the two remaining picture slots to show you the most obvious of damages. We are more than happy to email you more pictures of the other more minor damages. Circa 1920-1930s. Thank you!
