Chinese Ming Dynasty Painted Pottery Saddled Horse (for repair)

This pottery model of a horse with saddle was made during the early part of the Ming Dynasty (AD 1368 - 1644). It is made from a reddish pottery that has been "cold painted" in a white pigment with details picked out in green, red and black pigments on top of the white. Note the fine detail of the horse's mane. In places on the underside are the remains of ancient root/plants growths from its long burial.

Chinese Southern Song Dynasty Moulded Qingbai Porcelain Vase (with characters)

This attractive pear-shaped vase was made during the Southern Song Dynasty (AD 1127 - 1279), most likely at one of the kilns in Fujian province. Interestingly it is made in several sections that have been luted together. The mid section is decorated with a scrolling lotus blossom pattern, below which is a repeating lotus leaf pattern. The body and inner mouth are coated in a pale greenish qingbai glaze that has a ...

Chinese Song Dynasty Qingbai Glazed Porcelain Bowl

This porcelain bowl was made during the Song Dynasty (AD 960 - 1279). Although a fairly modest example with no decoration other than the glaze, it is its simplicity alone that makes it so appealing. The colour of the qingbai glaze on such wares can vary greatly according to what the conditions in the kiln were like during firing. The pale glaze has a greenish tint to it and is finely-crackled. One faint line of "crackle" does penetrate the b...

Chinese Ming Dynasty Monochrome White Porcelain Wine Cup

This small porcelain wine cup was made around the 15th Century. It is thinly-potted and has a particularly translucent body. It is coated in a silky-smooth creamy-white glaze, save for the unglazed stacking ring in its centre. Although it is in good condition with no restoration or repair, there is a fine hairline to the wall that is difficult to see unless held at a certain angle in the light. Diameter 6.5 cm.

Ancient Chinese Buddhist Pottery Amulet - Ming Dynasty

This is one of a group of moulded pottery tablets that we bought about twenty years ago. They are made from a relatively high-fired pottery and have a surprising amount of detail, including the sun and the moon in this example. They were made as amulets and votive offerings and were reported to have been excavated from the foundations of an ancient Buddhist temple, where originally many would have been placed to ensure the success of the...
