Chinese Song Dynasty Qingbai Porcelain Bowl

This porcelain bowl was made during the Song Dynasty (AD 960 - 1279). It stands on a relatively wide and high foot and is coated in a finely-crackled pale greenish Qingbai glaze. The base remains unglazed and there are traces of what appears to be a Chinese character in fired-on black pigment. The glaze has flaked just a little from the rim where it is particularly thin. The glaze has also become a little stained from long burial.

Thai 14th - 15th Century Celadon Glazed Stoneware Jarlet

This small and heavily-potted stoneware jar was made during the 14th - 15th centuries at one of the Sawankhalok kilns. Both upper and lower parts of the body have particularly pronounced carved decoration. It is coated in a finely-crackled pale blueish-green glaze that has worn through at the mouth edge and highlights of the carved pattern. The flat base remains unglazed and shows faint cord marks.

This dish was made in the 18th century, during the Qianlong reign (1735 - 1796) of the Qing Dynasty or possibly a little earlier. The underglaze blue decoration features various floral patterns. Iron-brown has been painted around the rim edge to prevent fritting of the glaze.
