Japanese Iron Hailstone / Nail Head Tetsubin with Mark - Meiji

This cast iron tetsubin (teapot / kettle) was made during the Meiji period (1868 - 1912) or possibly a little later. The pattern to the upper part of the kettle, and around the outside of the cover, is known as the hailstone or nail head pattern. On top of the cover, clearly its original, is a finial in the shape of a flower bud or possibly a pine cone. There are two marks below the spout.

Tray 8 1/2 x 8 1/2 ins. (21.6 x 21.6 cms) This beautifully made tray in Kiri (paulownia) wood is decorated with three of Kansetsu's seals.
