Rare Chinese Song Dynasty White Ware Bowl Stand

This very rare bowl stand was made during the Song Dynasty (AD 960 - 1279), most likely at the Cizhou kilns in Hebei province. It is quite "heavily-potted" and coated in a clear finely-crackled glaze over a creamy-white slip, save for the unglazed foot. There are minor chips to the glaze around the rims but no repair or restoration...

Fine Chinese Song Dynasty Qingbai Porcelain Dish (Ex. Lammers Collection)

This fine porcelain dish with foliate rim was made during the Song Dynasty (AD 960 - 1279). It is coated in quite a thick finely-crackled Qingbai glaze that is a very attractive delicate pale green in colour. There is a circle inside the dish that remains unglazed, to allow such dishes to be stacked on top of each in the kiln during firing with the glaze fusing them together.

Fine Chinese Song Dynasty Qingbai Porcelain Dish / Cup Stand

This small and rare porcelain dish, or possibly a cup stand, was made during the Song Dynasty (AD 960 - 1279). It stands on quite a high foot and is coated in a translucent blueish-green Qingbai glaze over a hard white body. The glaze is crackled in places.

Chinese Song Dynasty Qingbai Porcelain Dish / Cup Stand

This small and rare porcelain dish, or possibly a cup stand, was made during the Song Dynasty (AD 960 - 1279). It stands on quite a high foot and is coated in a translucent pale Qingbai glaze over a hard white body. To the foot edge is what on first sight appears to be a repair, however, close examination reveals this to be a minor manufacturing defect, clearly caused prior to firing.

Very Rare Chinese Ming Dynasty Small White Porcelain Dish

Whilst it is tempting to attribute this fine small dish as Qingbai ware dating to the Song Dynasty, one solitary almost identical example was recovered from the "Wanli Shipwreck" dated to the early 17th Century (see page 149 of the fine book, "The Wanli Shipwreck and its Ceramic Cargo" by Sten Sjostrand & Sharipah Lok Lok Syed Idrus). For this reason we date this dish to the latter part of the Ming dynasty...

Fine Chinese Tang Dynasty Horse & "Fat Man" Rider with Oxford TL Test

This fine pottery model of a horse and rider was made during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 906). Sitting on the horse is a male courtier, often referred to as a "fat man", the male equivalent of the "fat lady"; note the clothing and hairstyle. It is made from a relatively high-fired buff-coloured pottery that has been "cold painted" in various coloured pigments.

Chinese Ming Dynasty Blue & White Porcelain Bowl (Hongzhi)

This blue and white porcelain bowl with flared rim was made during the late 15th - early 16th century (Hongzhi reign 1488 – 1505). The outer wall is decorated in underglaze blue with a honeycomb pattern below which are lotus leaf panels. The inside decoration is has a floral pattern in the centre with a band of repeated Sanskrit characters around the rim.

This fine-quality porcelain bowl was made during the 16th century, c.1550-1570. The pattern, in underglaze blue of good colour, features chrysanthemum blossoms (the chrysanthemum is the emblem of autumn and also represents friendship and an easy life.
