Japanese 19th Century Blue & White Porcelain Dish - Mount Fuji

This attractive porcelain dish was made in the 19th century. It is quite "heavily-potted" and has a "wavy" edge. The underglaze blue decoration is of a landscape scene featuring Mount Fuji. The small dark spots that can be seen in places are from manufacture and are under the glaze. To the underside are the often-seen firing "spur" marks.

This beautifully proportioned Seto tokkuri is a fine example of the Mingei pottery wares of the Seto kilns and was made during the Meiji period (1868 - 1912). It is coated in a pale olive-green glaze that is a little speckled in places.
