Rare Chinese Neolithic Pottery Cup - Banshan / Majiayao Culture (c. 2600 - 2300 BC)
This rare pottery vessel was made over 4,000 years ago by peoples of the Majiayao Culture, most likely during the Banshan phase (c. 2600 - 2300 BC). This nicely-shaped cup is made from a fairly low-fired coarse, gritty clay. It has a single handle. Note the patterned base edge and the reinforcing of the rim edge. The base is slightly concave.
Height 10 cm, diameter 12 cm. Part of the mouth edge has been repaired, but overall condition is very good.
