Chinese Northern Wei Dynasty Painted Pottery Warrior with Shield (AD 386 - 534)
This interesting and rare painted pottery figure was made during the Northern Wei Dynasty (AD 386 - 534). It represents a soldier standing to attention whilst holding a shield in his left hand. In the right hand is a purpose-made hole where originally would have been placed a miniature weapon, most likely made of wood and now long since rotted away and lost. Note the detail of the clothing, hairstyle and facial features. Height 22 cm (8.5 inches). Very good condition.
