Rare Tall Chinese Han Dynasty Painted Pottery Incense Burner

This unusually tall and elaborate two-part incense burner was made during the Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 220). The lower part has a wide saucer with a stem leading to the container for burning the incense which is almost spherical in shape, the upper part of which is reticulated. Traces of the original red painted decoration can still be seen.

Height 36.5 cm (14.25 inches). There is surface wear and loss of pigment but no sign of restoration or repair; very good condition.
