Rare Large Chinese Han Dynasty Pottery Jar (206 BC - AD 220)
This large and impressive pottery jar of exceptional form was made during the Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 220). It is a fine example of the Han potter's craft, very sophisticated for this period; thinly-potted for its large size, a wide-bodied jar with sturdy handles and quite a small flat base. In places on the surface are the traces of ancient plant/root growths from its long burial.
Height 44 cm (17.25 inches), maximum diameter 40 cm (15.75 inches). There is a minor repair to the edge of one handle and signs of discreet repair to the mouth/neck, none of which detract from the beauty of this superb and very rare large jar.
