Chinese Tang Dynasty Painted Pottery Horse & Musician Rider (AD 618 - 906)
This attractive pottery model of a horse and rider was made during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 906).The horse stands with its head turned to its left whilst the rider sits upright in the position of playing a drum. It is made from a reddish pottery that has been cold-painted in various coloured pigments.
Height 30 cm (12 inches). The ancient and fragile object has been professionally restored. It is part of a group of around twenty similar horses with musician riders we bought in the late 1990s; this particular model has been in our private collection since then and has not previously been offered for sale.
