Small Chinese Tang Dynasty Painted Pottery Horse / Pony
This small and very attractive pottery model of a horse was made during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 906). Very unusually, the horse stands with its head raised and neck stretched out. It is made from a relatively highly-fired reddish pottery, the body having been made in a two-part mould with the legs and tail luted to the body. It is has been "cold painted" in various coloured pigments.
Height 21 cm (8.25 inches). It is in exceptional condition.
For information, our last photos shows other small horses and camels that came from the same excavation.
