Fine Large Chinese Han Dynasty Painted Pottery Jar
This large and attractive pottery jar was made some 2,000 years ago during the Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 220). It is made from a fine-grained grey pottery, quite "heavily-potted" and of a rare and unusual form. It has a bulbous body, quite a wide straight neck and a sturdy square-cut mouth. The surface is particularly smooth and has been "cold painted" in a design comprising various geometric bands and the swirling "cloud" pattern using white, orange and blueish-purple pigments.
This is a large jar with a height of 32 cm (12.5 inches), diameter 28 cm (11 inches). This jar is in exceptional condition with minimal surface wear and no sign of any restoration or repair.
