Fine Chinese Ming Dynasty Painted Pottery Horse & Groom
These fine pottery models, together comprising a horse and groom, were made during the Ming Dynasty (AD 1368 - 1644). They are made from a reddish-brown pottery that have been elaborately decorated in various coloured pigments. Note the detail in both the moulding of the pottery and the painting of, for example, the mane and fittings of the horse, also to the clothing of the groom. Still adhering to the surface in places are ancient plant/root growths from long burial.
Height of groom 24 cm (9.5 inches), height of horse 23 cm (9 inches), length of horse 26 cm (10.25 inches). Although some degree of repair to such objects is usually to be expected, none is obvious; these truly are exceptional examples in fine condition.
