Rare Chinese Ming Dynasty Glazed Pottery Censer with Boar Handles
This very unusual pottery censer was made during the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644). Its most outstanding features are the two large handles in the form of boars. Almost all of its outer surface is decorated with moulded designs: a wave pattern around the outer rim, lotus leaves and blossoms to the body, animalistic feet. It is coated in three colour glazes, amber, turquoise and purple.
This is quite large with a width (handle to handle) of 20.5 cm (8 inches), height 19.5 cm (7.5 inches). There is an old repair where one handle has been broken off and re-stuck.
