Chinese Tang Dynasty Small Painted Pottery Camel (AD 618 - 906)
This very attractive pottery model of a camel was made during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 906). It is made from a reddish-brown pottery. The body is quite "heavily-potted" and has been made in a two-part mould with the legs, neck and tail luted to the body. It is has been "cold painted" in various coloured pigments. The camel stands upright and alert with its head raised. Height 19 cm (7.5 inches).
